Helpful Hints
- Set a goal for your group
- Set a goal for each seller
- Identify what products you have chosen for your fundraiser
- Develop a list of people who might be interested in the fundraiser as a starting point for your sales.
- When you approach someone to make a sale, be sure to let the potential buyer know about the cause, so they are aware of where the money is going. Also, whether you make a sale or not, ask for a referral.
- If they’re not interesting in purchasing, ask if they would prefer to make a donation.
- Always ask if they would like 2 or 3 (never 1!)
- Call on family, friends, church members and neighbors first.
- For Kids: Start with your parents. They might even take orders at their work place for you if you ask nicely. Don’t forget sisters, brothers, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, neighbors and people that may have donated to a previous cause.
- Suggest they buy several to use as gifts for birthdays, thank yous, anniversaries, etc.
- Be enthusiastic!
- Kick-off! One of the single most important things you can do to have a successful fundraiser, no matter what the group size, is to have a kick-off. Kick-offs motivate your group and generate excitement for your fundraiser! Here are some tips on how to hold a successful kick-off:
- Hand out packets may include the following items:
- Order forms
- Collection envelope
- Show how to fill out the order forms for the customer (name, checks payable to, etc.). Example is on the order form.
- Review information: remind them to collect money at time of sale, make checks payable to your organization, the date orders are to be turned in, goals per seller, delivery dates, etc.
- Large organizations can have teams compete against each other. Provide a pizza or ice cream party for winning group.
- Once you’ve established what your goal amount is to raise for you cause, keep a goal ‘thermometer’ on the door charting the group’s progress. Ask Incentives Plus to provide you with a sample!
